Toontown Help

Graphics

Every computer has a graphics card (also known as a video card) and its job is to display the graphics on your monitor. Graphics cards use a special type of software called "drivers" and these must be updated every now and then to ensure your graphics card is working at peak performance.

Toontown requires a video card with 3D acceleration and at least 8 MB memory, although for a flawless game experience it is recommended that you have an accelerated graphics port (AGP) 3D video card with 32 MB or more memory.

Learning about your video card

There are a large number of 3D video cards available. If you are experiencing problems of graphical nature in the game, when checking your PC or we found that your video card is incompatible, the best thing to do first is to check what video card your PC has and whether it has the latest drivers.
  1. Click the Start button in the lower left hand corner of your desktop
  2. Select Run
  3. In the resulting box type dxdiag
  4. Click OK
  5. Select the Display tab at the top

Under Device you will find the name and manufacturer of your video card
Under Drivers you will find the date and version of the video card driver installed on your computer

Supported video cards

The following 3D video cards have been tested by our QA staff and appear to work with Disney's Toontown Online. Other cards may work, of course. This is not an endorsement for any of these products.
  • ATI Radeon 7000 (or greater)
  • ATI Rage 128 Pro
  • ATI Rage 128
  • NVidia Riva TNT/TNT2
  • NVidia Geforce 2/3/4
  • Matrox Millenium G200
  • Matrox Millenium G400
  • S3/Diamond Viper II
  • S3/Diamond Savage 4
  • 3Dfx Voodoo 3/4/5

The following older 3D video cards are not recommended for use with Toontown and are not officially supported. These cards may cause Toontown to have problems displaying text, show up random graphics errors, or seriously slow down your game play. If you have problems with one of these cards even with the latest drivers, your best choice is to install a newer video card.
  • ATI Rage Pro
  • ATI Rage Pro Mobility
  • ATI Rage XL
  • Other ATI Rage Pro chipset-based cards - (Some Rage Pros lack some transparency support, and may not display readable text)
  • Intel I-810
  • Intel I-815
  • Any PCI video card with less than 16MB video memory

The following 3D video cards will not work properly with Toontown:
  • Any card with less than 4MB of video memory
  • Number Nine Imagine Series 2
  • 3Dfx Voodoo 1, 2 (no mouse cursor)
  • S3 Virge-based cards

Updating your graphics driver software

If your card is on the supported list, the next you can do is to check if there is a more recent version of the driver for your card.

Once you know the name of the video card manufacturer (See Learning about your video card above), you can search for the latest driver by visiting your card manufacturer’s website.

Alternatively, you can visit our graphics card update page where you can find direct links to your graphics card manufacturer. Visit the manufacturer's website for instructions on installing the latest video drivers.

Updating your operating system

Windows 2000/XP users, please install the latest Microsoft Service Pack for your OS, available here:

Also install the latest DirectX version from:

More tricks that might help

If your Toontown mouse cursor is missing or drawn badly, you can try switching to the regular Windows cursor.

If you are running Win9x/ME click Start -> Run -> Type: command.exe.
If you are running Windows 2000/XP click Start -> Run -> Type: cmd.exe.

In the resulting window type:
cd "C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\Toontown" Configrc.exe -cursor_off -save
Then try starting Toontown as normal.

Another thing to try for graphics issues is switching Toontown's default graphics API. Sometimes video drivers support one API better than another. This can be done by clicking Start -> Run -> type:
Configrc.exe [XXX] -save
where [XXX] is -OGL, -DX8, or -DX7.

Contact us

If you have tried these fixes and still have trouble, please submit a problem report on our Contact us page as follows:
  • Choose the category Technical question so that your Toontown logs are automatically attached.
  • If you experience a graphical problem in the game, please attach a screenshot.
Press the F9 key in the game to automatically save a screenshot image in a file named <frame_number>.jpg (e.g. screenshot-Sat-May-06-22-51-03-2006-378.jpg) in C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\Toontown\.
  • Create a DxDiag report and copy-paste it in the field Your message.
To create the DxDiag report, exit Toontown, go to the Start Menu, select Run, and type dxdiag.exe. Click the Save All Information button, which saves the file DxDiag.txt, and then exit. Locate and open the DxDiag.txt file and copy its whole content.
  • Don't forget to include a few words about the problem you are experiencing so that we know what to look for.
