Sr. Animation Technical Artist
Black Rock Studios, a Disney Interactive Studio, is currently looking for a Technical animation generalist to join their Brighton-based studio.
Main Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Technical Lead Artist, the Sr. Animation TA at Black Rock Studios, will provide specialist support to our animation teams. Working closely with the project leads and directly with the teams, you will design, develop and integrate animation pipeline , workflow and tool solutions.
We are looking for an energetic, experienced and passionate team player who will work to drive our studio to continued success.
Key Activities
— Make a significant direct contribution to the design and development of our animation tools and pipelines as they apply to real-time technology for the current generation of gaming consoles.
— Solve technical production issues that relate to animation.
— Build advanced rigs for both character based animation and large set piece events.
— Ability to prototype technical rigs through production of animation tests and final production animation for in game use.
— Work with programming and tools teams to develop tools/ scripts/ plug-ins to streamline animation workflow.
— Communicate technical concepts and support team members in their understanding of them.
— Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative game production technologies and the capabilities/limitations of these technologies as they relate to the project design goals.
— Coach and mentor more junior TA's and animators on team.
Essential Requirements:
— Strong technical knowledge of Maya 2008 +.
— Knowledge of rigging and weighting techniques.
— Practical working knowledge of Maya dynamics and ridged body dynamics.
— Experience writing complex MEL scripts.
— Able to standardise auto rigging scripts.
— Knowledge of Animation principles and Kinematics and the ability to produce high quality key frame animation.
— Understanding of an animator’s needs and requirements.
— Understanding of game engines, tools, pipelines and development processes.
— Good communication skills; ability and willingness to accept and follow direction, and to collaborate productively with others.
— A reel demonstrating outstanding visual and technical ability
— Genuine interest and passion for playing games.
— Experience Required:
— At least three years game production experience as a Technical Artist, Animator or Character TD
— A significant contribution as a Technical Animator on at least one shipped AAA PS3 or Xbox360 title strongly preferred.
— Knowledge of and experience working with physical based animation simulations desirable.
