Track Designer
Black Rock Studios, a Disney Interactive Studio, is currently looking for a Track Designer to join the team who are developing an unannounced arcade racing game on Xbox 360 & PS3.
Job Summary
The Track Designer reports directly to the Design Director and is a key role in the cross-discipline Environment Team, working with artists and other designers to design the layout, pacing and content of action-packed race tracks. Using both in-house proprietary and commercial tools, the Track Designer creates and tweaks the track from initial concept layout to the final polished, shippable asset. As well as designing the actual layout of the track, the Designer also implements many important items, including scripting pre-defined race events, AI control points, camera paths and much more.
The Track Designer uses a variety of methods to communicate their ideas across the team and prove the gameplay of their designs, from paper documentation to grey-boxing, in-engine tests and other similar ways. Track design is a continual and iterative process, and the Designer is someone who excels at soliciting and responding to feedback. In the final phases of the project the Track Designer provides a QA support role to the test department and gives vital assistance in reviewing the stability and quality of each build created.
Skills requirements / responsibilities:
— A minimum of 2 years experience as a games designer.
— Displays a passion for videogames and the entertainment software industry.
— Possess good written and oral communication skills; essential in sharing ideas and concepts.
— Demonstrates the ability to learn new tools quickly.
— Able to work independently on routine tasks with little supervision.
— Demonstrates a good working knowledge of the technical restrictions and specifications for the consoles and machines frequently used by the department.
— Consistently displays the following personal characteristics: Flexibility and adaptability, ambition, effective communicator, enthusiasm, imagination and spontaneity.
— Previous racing game or action game experience is essential
