Disney Cars, released in 2006, is the prequel to the upcoming Disney Cars 2, both of which were directed by John Lasseter. Disney Cars is a 3D animated movie about Lightning McQueen, a hotshot rookie car racer competing in the Piston Cup. On his way to California for the final race, McQueen inadvertently ends up in the small town of Radiator Springs, where he damages the town’s road and is sentenced to community service. During his time there, Lightning McQueen gets to know the town's characters, forging a friendship with Mater, a rusty tow truck, and a relationship with Sally, a snazzy Porsche. Over time they help him to realise that there is more to life than trophies, fame and sponsorship. Disney Cars is available on both DVD and Blu-Ray now. There is also a wealth of Cars merchandise available such as toys, diecast cars, bedding and bedroom accessories, video games and more.
