Maurice is a gentle and kind old man who lives for two things - his daughter, Belle, and his inventions. He hopes that his latest machine will win first prize at the fair so he can afford to make his daughter's dreams come true. On the journey through the woods he loses his way, is attacked by wolves and stumbles across a mysterious castle. Little does he realise that what is to follow is not a dream, but a nightmare.
